Recently, they have agreed that theProgram provides greater benefits if two or more projects are managed together than if each project is managed separately. Program Management is characterized by ambiguity and uncertainty. The project manager has more or less certainty about the project objectives and the authority to achieve them. The Program Manager, on the other hand, deals with a lot more ambiguity and uncertainty in order to realize enhanced benefits for the program. The Program Manager may not be given explicit authority, and must use soft skills more than a Project Manager in order to achieve program objectives and create business value. Absolutely. There are no 2 questions.
Programs are intended to create Business Value for an organization and are distinct from projects. Organizations have a lot of options to implement program management, address ambiguity, and increase the organization’s benefits.
Ambiguity is when an organization has multiple options but isn’t sure which one is the best. It becomes a learning curve to try different options and ultimately achieve the desired outcomes and value. It can yield many benefits for the organization if it is done in a well-planned manner.
My experience shows that there is very little program management in an organization. Therefore, a structured approach to Program Managements provides good opportunities for project managers to practice Program Management. The organization can save a lot of money and reap the benefits of the strategy and techniques if it is done correctly.
PMI’s Program Management Certification, PgMP, addresses how to manage Program Management in an organization. Program Management has evolved to be a highly effective skill that is being used in some of the most prestigious organizations. PgMP professionals are relatively few in number, at around 3000. This is due to the fact that it’s a relatively new certification compared with PMP professionals who have around 1 million ++. The scope of Program Management is unmatched.
